VIRTUAL WORKSHOP @frankartsdotcom ▪️ CHINA PAI VIRTUAL WORKSHOP @frankartsdotcom ▪️ CHINA PAINTING, LUSTER AND DECALS WITH MELANIE SHERMAN ▪️ Saturday, February 6, 2021 ▪️ 1pm – 3pm Eastern Time; 10am – 12noon Pacific Time

China paint, luster, and cold-finishing techniques are used all over the world to finesse and highlight many qualities of the ceramic form. These surface decorations are used for expressing cultural heritage, storytelling, color theory and more. In this 2-hour demonstration workshop, Melanie will demonstrate how she marries the ceramic form and surface imagery with layer after layer of lavish ornamentation and embellishments. She will accomplish this by demonstrating or describing the use of china painting, a variety of decals, and gold luster application, as well as image transfer.

China paint, luster, and cold-finishing techniques are used all over the world to finesse and highlight many qualities of the ceramic form. These surface decorations are used for expressing cultural heritage, storytelling, color theory, and more. This workshop is designed to marry the ceramic form and imagery and to personalize the student’s own ceramics work while exploring new surface decoration techniques. Students indulge in layer after layer of lavish ornamentation and embellishments. Participants may bring up to four of their own glazed functional and/or sculptural ceramic pieces to work on. Commercial glazed ceramic tiles are provided to practice on and decorate.
